PAIN DE SPAIN

2018

Performance and Documentary project

Work in process

Pain de Spain is an interdisciplinary project that combines performance with documentary work.
In the conflicting context between the independence movement in Catalonia and the nationalist community of Spain, Spanish flags have been pending for a while in Valencia city's windows and balconies as a pro-nationalist protest – the same as in the rest of Spain- . Hundreds of them have been registered with this project, both in video and in photo, as a documentary process.

The performative part of the project is an intersection between music, singing and experimentation of the body movement, combined with Spanish representative elements, creating an ironic language by distorting the image of all these elements.

By deconstructing singing and flamenco dancing, the piece introduces the freedom of gender in the body, showing Spanish culture from a sensitive and free perspective of expression and movement in the body.
